So we were going to go and get the rest of our important stuff from the old house but it looks like that isn’t going to be possible. We’re leaving behind some essentials (mainly clothes and mobility aids) that we need funds to replace. Absolutely immediately I need a replacement for my shower chair which will be about $40.
In total I believe ~$200 will cover what we need but I am also starting to suspect we’re going to need more so bigger donations would be extremely helpful.

Salt of the Earth actually has a crazy interesting history- OP already said it was made in 1954, but that was in the middle of the Red Scare (communism scary cold war hysteria)
Congress’s anti-communism target fell hard on Hollywood, and those in the industry who were suspected of communism at all were blacklisted from all jobs, because studio’s didn’t want to face backlash from Congress
Salt of the Earth was made nearly 100% with blacklisted crew members from Hollywood, and had such difficulty finding actors that they hired local citizens and miners from the actual strike the plot is based on. There were only 5 trained actors involved, and one of them (Rosaura Revueltas, the woman in the gif) was deported to Mexico before they finished filming on accusations of communism, with no proof and no substance. The filming was plagued with police harassment and threats (according to my professor they were shot at more than once), and the local union hall was burned down.
The movie itself not only covers a real 1950′s labor strike demanding safer and more equal labor conditions for Mexican-American employees, but after the miners were facing arrest, their wives and children took up the strike in their place. The movie’s combination of blacklisted crew, civil rights and feminist message, and pro-union plot (during the red scare) got the movie blacklisted and only 12 theaters in the entire United States would show the movie- it was successful in Europe, but didn’t actually achieve viewership in the US until the 60′s

So yeah, my mom is accelating in her abuse and I have learned she is dating someone who deeply despises me who I believe is exasperating everything. She also believes me moving out is a personal sleight against her to I am actually not moving out and my apartment is just a dorm(?).

Some of you may know me and some of you don’t, so let me introduce myself.
I’m Riot and my family and I are being asked to leave our home.
We are a group of Black lgbtq+ folks, young and old, animals and humans, folks who are mentally ill, gender non conforming, s*x workers, disabled, you name it.
Pretty much anyone who needs to be here is here.
For the last year, we’ve been living in a house big enough for us as our family only grew larger.
Our landlord is now deciding to do renovations and would not like to offer us a full term lease.
So that leaves our Black family in all our marginalizations without housing.
The kicker is, we only have August to find someplace to live as we were notified just yesterday, July 28th, 2021.
Thirty days give or take to find a place that can fit 9 people and two critters.
So we need your help.
Most of us struggle with everyday employment (such as a 9 to 5pm) but we do gig and engage in survival s*x work for daily funds but it’s not enough to afford the down payment/deposit, security, first month, and whatever else the new landlord or broker might ask for. As well as moving fees.
So please, if you can, share, donate, spread the word.
We need all the help we can get.

I made a gofundme last year for medical stuff and I honestly thought no one would care but they did and I’m still very very very shocked that anyone actually donated and not to be dark but that really did make me not want to like jump off a bridge? ANWAY I raised my goal after consulting with doctors and friends to cover the cost of any potential complications that might arise from surgery and to help me out while I’m recovering since I won’t be able to work.
